WARNING: cyber attackers are targeting you on Social Media websites

Cyber attackers monitor social network sites, especially Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and blogs to gather enough information about you to help them penetrate and damage our network. They search these sites for clues you might unwittingly leave behind.
If you post updates about your job, the program you work on, or even a hobby, you are providing enough information for attackers to guess usernames and passwords and crack computing network and employee e-mail accounts, often in as little as 15 minutes.
Cyber attacks are creative and effective. E-mails sent to targeted employees appear entirely legitimate, referencing a familiar topic. Employees who open these e-mails can immediately infect our systems.

Steps to keep cyber attackers from exploiting your use of the Internet
  • Never use your company e-mail address
  • to sign up for access to public social media sites or personal business.
  • Never divulge
  • any sensitive or proprietary information.
  • Consider restricting
  • information regarding your affiliation.
  • Limit visibility
  • of the personal information you post.
  • Immediately report suspicious e-mail
  • to the Cyber Security Operations Center.
Your company maintains several social media sites for external marketing and recruiting purposes and welcomes your use of these sites. This warning is to help protect you and the company from attacks directly related to that use. Thank you for helping keep us secure.
